A Celtic system used by the ancient druids to encode their wisdom. Each tree has its Celtic name and a letter which makes up the alphabet.
I have been delving into books, spending time in woods, walking hedgerows and asking permission from the trees to collect their wood.
Each stick is roughly six inches long and half an inch thick. I have carved each stick with its own letter, leaving a part of the stick with its bark.
It has been really fascinating process of making the Tree Ogham. I found myself travelling back into my past, reconnecting and reflecting on the relationships I had with trees from my childhood. Memories of planting, climbing, carving, building treehouses, harvesting their fruits, flowers, leaves and burning their wood.
I am interested in how the Tree Ogham can help us build a richer and deeper conversation with trees.
For me, this has been a powerful reminder of just how important trees are. They are so much more than a resource than oxygen makers, they are beings who need protecting.
If you are interested in learning more about the Tree Ogham. I would recommend Glennie Kindred’s book -The Tree Ogham.
