Lá Bealtaine

April 29, 2020

It’s Lá Bealtaine,  Beltane this Friday, May 1st!

Last year we had a lovely big celebration at our children’s school, this year will be much quieter but we still hanker after a scene of connection.

So this year, we are inviting our family and friends to join us, in time and action, for a tiny Front Door Festival at home.

We can’t invite human guests into our homes right now but we can still extend the spirit of welcome out into the world and welcome the new season in. Keeping the knowledge in our hearts that one day soon we will again welcome people over our thresholds.

Lá Bealtaine, Beltane, May Day, marks the transition between spring and summer and celebrates the beginning of the light half of the year. It’s a day to celebrate this fertile, beautiful world, to bless the crops that will feed us and to feed our creativity and imagination with all the beauty that is around us. It is the mid-morning of the year, full of activity and movement, joy, enthusiasm, growth and harmony. Lady Spring has reached her full potential and The Green Man takes her by the hand and the great marriage is celebrated, as together they dance the land green once more.

To mark this in our own little way, we are going to be opening the door of our home mid-morning, at 10 am on Friday. We will be spreading flowers on the threshold as a sign of welcome. We will whisper the names of those who we love, care for and miss into the wind. Sending our best wishes to them and the friends we are yet to meet. We might even sing a song or say a poem! We will welcome any wishes that we receive in return with open, grateful hearts and let them warm our home.

If you would like to do the same, please join us at 10am your time, your doorstep, on Friday 1st of May and invite those you love and care about to join too. A shared intention is a simple form of connection and in these times of separation little things count. Open your door (or your window) and open your heart.

We will share our little festival on our social media and if you want to do the same that would be lovely #frontdoorfestival

Warm Welcoming Wishes,

Kareen and Jim x
